Leicester Tigers have retained their place as the leading Aviva Premiership club on social media in a new study released today.

Tigers finished top of the Aviva Premiership table in the Sport Social Media Index 2014, retaining their place from last season.

The Sport Social Media Index ranked 148 UK professional rugby, football and cricket teams, with Tigers finishing ninth, a rise of three places in the overall ranking from last year. The Index was topped by Tigers’ near neighbours Leicester City.

The index recognises the club’s content and interaction on social media channels Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Vine and on the Tig Blog on the Tigers app. It was produced by PR and social media agency Umpf with partners William Hill.

Gary Sherrard, Tigers head of media, said: “Social media plays a huge part in communications with supporters in terms of supplying information. It also provides the perfect platform for entertainment and fun as well as enjoying interaction with the Tigers Family.

"With a club presence on so many social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine and Youtube, we hope there is something for everyone interested in the club.”
