Leicester Tigers have reached another social media landmark by welcoming their 15,000th follower to Instagram.

The @LeicesterTigers Instagram account showcases some of the best Tigers imagery and video, including behind the scenes photos, match shots and classic images as well as fan photos.

In recent weeks, Tigers on Instagram have documented the Aviva Premiership fixtures against Northampton Saints and Sale Sharks and the back-to-back European fixtures with Toulon, as well as taking fans behind the scenes at the Christmas visit to Leicester’s hospitals and the recent photoshoot with club sponsor Chester Barrie, the Savile Row tailors.

It has been a busy December and Christmas period for the club on social media. Tigers retained their place as the leading Aviva Premiership club on social media in the Sport Social Media Index 2014.

The Index ranked 148 UK professional rugby, football and cricket teams, recognising their content and interaction on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vine and Instagram.

Tigers were the top Aviva Premiership club for a second successive year and finished ninth overall, a rise of three places in the overall ranking from last year.

On Facebook, Tigers have gone past 140,000 likes and are approaching 70,000 followers on Twitter. Supporters used both platforms to keep in touch with Tigers over the Christmas period and to share their Tigers-related Christmas photos and thoughts with other fans.

On YouTube, Tigers’ videos have been watched almost 750,000 times. Highlights include the historic game against the Barbarians, the unforgettable Haka by the Maori All Blacks and Robert Barbieri talking us through his ‘bunny-hop’ earlier in the season.

And on Vine, the six-second video-sharing app, Tigers videos have been watched more than 400,000 times, and counting. Tigers use Vine to bring fans a taste of life behind the scenes at Welford Road and Oval Park. Click here to take a look.
