Two-try Tom enjoys Tigers triumph

With three tries in his last three games, hooker Tom Youngs is enjoying his rich run of form in the Leicester Tigers attack.Youngs claimed two tries in six second-half minutes shortly after coming off the replacements bench in Friday’s win over the Scarlets as Tigers looked to maintain hopes of qualifying for the knockout rounds of the European Champions Cup.   He said: “The first one is a forwards try – a catch and drive, and I finished it off. We even had Seremaia Bai giving it a push there, with Geoff Parling steering from the front. The second one was a break from my brother – I’ll probably have to buy him a beer for that.   “I said in dressing room a few weeks ago that I hadn’t scored for a while and then I got one against Bath and two tonight. I’m well happy with that!”   Four of his last five tries for Tigers have been in European competition, including a vital score away to Montpellier last season on the way to the quarter-finals. he ha also never before scored three tries in a season for the club.   The target on Friday, though, was on the team performance and a result that could keep Tigers in the European Champions Cup.   A 40-23 bonus-point win did just that, setting up a Pool 3 finale against Ulster in Belfast next Saturday.   “At times we pushed a bit more than we would have wanted,” admitted Youngs. “But we were in a situation where we had to chase it. You can talk about not chasing the game too early, but we needed the tries and the points, and in situations like that you’re going to force it at times.   “We made some errors, we’ve still got room to improve, but we got the bonus point and we scored 40 points which we haven’t done for a while.   “We won’t get too far ahead of ourselves. We’ve still got to go to Ulster and we’ll see where we are after that. That’s the challenge now.”
