Tigers energy impresses Cockerill

Richard Cockerill says "attitude and energy" were behind a third successive Aviva Premiership win for Leicester Tigers on Saturday.  Tigers claimed a 28-8 victory over Sale Sharks in front of a 21,896 crowd at Welford Road to remain just one point outside the top four in the Aviva Premiership table.   After ending a try drought with scores from Laurence Pearce, Seremaia Bai and a penalty try, Tigers retained their place among the clubs chasing a place in the end-of-season play-offs.   “We were positive and our intent to play was really good from the start,” said director of rugby Cockerill.   “The second-half performance could have been better, but the attitude and the energy all afternoon were really good.   “Before the game I would have taken the four-point win, and after it we’re a bit disappointed we didn’t get the extra point which probably shows how good we were at times. We set up the grandstand finish with Seremaia's try but it was probably a bit too late.   “Sale are a good side, they’ve played well this year. We were playing against a side who started above us in the table and that now puts us four points better off than them.   “We’re not playing as well as we would like to, but today was a big improvement. The energy and the attitude were fantastic and we crack on.   “We have to be pleased with what we’ve done today, but we have to keep an eye on the ball and go to Newcastle next Sunday and make sure we get our mindset right for there.   “It is a difficult part of the season and we have so far come through it.”   There was more good news for Tigers as they welcomed back internationals Geoff Parling, Brad Thorn and Blaine Scully, while Christian Loamanu came off the bench for his first Premiership appearance since the opening day of the season.   “I thought Geoff was really good today and Brad was really influential for us,” said Cockerill. “We have a good squad and today we've seen that.   “It’s a good win and it has made it really tight in that top six or seven, which makes next week all that more important.”
