The team from Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College, featuring Leicester Tigers Academy players, beat Oaklands 13-6 to make it three wins out of three at the start of the AASE League season. After opening the season with victory at Worcester and at home to Myerscough College, Wyggeston followed up with a hard-earned win away at Oaklands.
Academy centre Lewis Winterbottom scored the only try of the match, with fly-half Jacob Umaga kicking the rest of the points.
Winterbottom’s score took Wyggeston into the lead after an early penalty from Umaga who also added the conversion. Another Umaga penalty later in the game secured the 13-6 win.
Wyggeston College joined the AASE League this season, with the 14 teams separated into North and South pools. Each team plays each other once before splitting into top three and bottom four within their regions. They then face each other once more in the sub-groups ahead of Finals Day on December 2, where it is proposed that the top three teams in the North will meet their counterparts in the South.
