Young squads from local rugby clubs Leicester Forest and Syston took part in the first Ultimate Big Boot at Welford Road on Saturday. As Leicester Tigers and Newcastle Falcons faced up in the Kings of the North tournament, players from the two local clubs showed their own skills in front of an appreciative crowd.
The Big Boot has been a popular part of matchday at Welford Road and this season it is going to be even bigger and even better.
Half-time now features The Ultimate Big Boot, sponsored by De Montfort University.
Teams of 10 are challenged to make as many catches as they can from the quickfire version of the Big Boot, with Syston setting the early benchmark of five. Local rivals Leicester Forest caught two of their attempts.
Syston under-14s coach Lee Winterton said: “I was really surprised – I think five is a really good score! I hope they can play that well when we go into our games.
“I’m really pleased with that. There’s the pressure of being on the pitch in front of everyone as well. It’s a great group of players and families, I’m very pleased for them.
“We try to support Tigers events as much as we can and get involved in a lot of things with them. There’s a great buzz about matchdays. It’s great for our club and for the players to be involved.”
There is also a jackpot prize for any team that can claim all 10 catches which now stands at £2,000.
The Ultimate Big Boot is available to group bookings. All participants receive an Ultimate Big Boot T-shirt as a souvenir. For more information, phone the Tigers Group Days team on 0116 2171 216.
