Building nicely but still work to do - Thacker

Leicester Tigers hooker Harry Thacker says the individual try in the win at Newcastle Falcons on Friday evening was a little out of his normal range. After taking an early lead with a Freddie Burns penalty at Kingston Park, Thacker provided the first of four Tigers tries in a 30-28 triumph in the Kings of the North victory, running in from 40 metres. Asked what he recalled of the score, Thacker said: “I got the ball and I just saw a big bloke coming at me! I kind of spun out of the tackle and bounced off him. Then it opened up and I just ran. “I don’t usually score tries like that, mine are normally off the back of a maul much closer to the line, so it’s nice to get a bit of a different one.” Tigers held a 22-point lead on the half-hour mark after further scores from Seremaia Bai and Riccardo Brugnara, with Burns adding the bonus-point score in the second half, but were made to battle for the win as Newcastle scored four of their own. “The first 30 minutes were outstanding from us,” said Thacker. “But then we slipped off a bit and we’ll have to have a look at that. They got back into it and the game was a lot closer than it could have been. “It’s a long pre-season, it’s been tough and now we’ve got a few days’ well-earned rest. We’re building nicely but there is still a lot to work on before we start the season.” Click here to watch highlights of Tigers' trip to Newcastle, including Thacker's try.
