Leicester Tigers send their sincerest condolences and support to everyone affected by the terrible events in Paris on Friday evening. The Tigers and French league champions Stade Francais Paris opened this season’s action in the European Rugby Champions Cup at Welford Road on Friday as the news unfolded.
Leicester Tigers chairman Peter Tom CBE said: “Like the rest of the world, we are shocked and horrified by the events in Paris during Friday evening.
“In the club’s 19-year history of European competition, the Tigers have made and continue to make many friends across the continent. We have shared some memorable occasions over the years with the Stade Francais club and one of our former players, Julien Dupuy, was in their team here on Friday.
“We send our condolences and support to all of our friends at Stade Francais and in their home city, and to anyone affected by Friday’s events.
“Any Stade Francais supporters who remain in Leicester and Leicestershire can be assured of our support and the sympathy of the Tigers Family for as long as they continue their stay here. We all wish them a safe and peaceful journey home.”
Due to the tragic events in Paris and the period of national mourning in France, tournament organisers EPCR and the Ligue Nationale de Rugby have decided to postpone this weekend's European Rugby Champions Cup and Challenge Cup matches scheduled to be played in France.
Therefore, games in the Champions Cup between Oyonnax and Ulster Rugby, and Racing 92 and Glasgow Warriors, as well as Saturday evening's Challenge Cup fixture between Pau and Castres Olympique have been postponed.
Sunday's Champions Cup matches between Bordeaux-Bègles and ASM Clermont Auvergne, and RC Toulon and Bath Rugby have also been postponed.
The matches will be rescheduled.
EPCR extends its sincerest sympathies to everyone affected by the Paris attacks and as a mark of respect, all clubs competing in this weekend's remaining Champions Cup and Challenge Cup fixtures have been asked to observe a minute's silence ahead of kick-off.
