Telusa Veainu made a round-high 150 metres against Worcester Warriors, the most by any player in Round 6 of the Aviva Premiership, according to official statisticians Opta. The Tonga international’s gains included his 40m run to the line for Tigers’ second try in their 29-20 bonus-point win at Sixways, his fifth in Leicester colours.
Veainu has made three Aviva Premiership starts and one appearance from the bench since linking up with the Tigers post-Rugby World Cup.
And in that time, according to Opta, the 24-year-old is responsible for three of the four highest gains in Aviva Premiership matches so far this season. He has made a total of 460m – second only to Sale Sharks' Mike Haley.
Graham Kitchener, on his first start for Tigers this season, claimed a round high 13 lineout wins to go with two steals and the first of Leicester’s four tries in the bonus-point win.
Kitchener said: “We had opportunities to score in the first half and hadn’t quite converted them. To get the seven points before half-time was important and T (Veainu) scored an awesome try at an important point in the second half.
“We stuck together and the second-half performance was really strong."
