The club is saddened to learn of the death of former Leicester Tigers full-back and prolific points-scorer Keith Chilton, aged 77.

Born in Ogmore Vale in Glamorgan, Chilton became Leicester’s top scorer of the 1960s with 551 points – including 26 tries – in 144 first-team appearances. He finished each of his four seasons at the club as top points scorer and played for the East Midlands against Australia in 1966.

Coincidentally, Chilton also made 144 appearances for London Welsh – scoring 44 tries – from his debut in 1958 up to his move to the East Midlands and gained selection in three national trials.

During his time in Leicester, he worked for English Electric at Whetstone and later as managing director at Oakland Elevators in Oadby.

Several of his former Tigers colleagues attended the funeral service at Bretby in Derbyshire.

Leicester Tigers pass on sincerest condolences to family and friends.
