It was a successful weekend for Leicester Tigers players involved in international action.

Dan Cole and Ben Youngs played their parts as England recorded a first-ever victory in Brisbane while Will Evans scored his first try for the Under-20s as they maintained their 100 per cent winning record in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship.

England battled back from 10-0 down early in the opening Test to beat the Wallabies 39-28 in a seven-try thriller at Suncorp Stadium.

Leicester Tigers prop Cole was a key figure in the victory, as a dominant England scrum won a of penalties that culminated in a yellow card for Scott Sio, the Australia loosehead prop, during the second half.

Owen Farrell profited, kicking 24 points, including six penalties, to add to tries for Jonathan Joseph (Bath Rugby), Marland Yarde (Harlequins) and Jack Nowell (Exeter Chiefs) to hand England a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series. The second Test is in Melbourne on Saturday.

The England U20s took their cue from the senior team later on Saturday, with an emphatic 44-0 bonus-point victory over Scotland at the Manchester City Academy Stadium.

With England leading 13-0 at half-time following Jack Walker’s (Yorkshire Carnegie) score, Tigers flanker Evans, on his U20s debut, scored a try early in the second half to open the floodgates.

Tries for Johnny Williams (London Irish), Jack Singleton (Worcester Warriors) and Max Malins (Saracens) followed to ensure England have a perfect record in Pool B with one game against Australia to come on.

Summer signing George McGuigan came off the bench for his England Saxons debut in their 32-24 win against South Africa A in Bloemfontein.

The Saxons led 22-3 at half-time through tries for Alec Hepburn (Exeter Chiefs), Semesa Rokoduguni (Bath Rugby) and Dan Robson (Wasps).

South Africa scored three tries after the break to battle back to within a point before Ollie Devoto (Bath Rugby) scored late on to secure the win.

Vereniki Goneva scored the match-winning try for Fiji as they overcame a 15-0 half-time deficit to beat Tonga 23-18.

Goneva partnered Seremaia in midfield Bai in the opening match Pacific Nations Cup and Rugby World Cup 2019 qualifying in the Oceania region, and both men played their part in the victory.

Bai converted Ben Volavola’s try on 45 minutes to start the fightback. No8 Nemia Soqeta powered over for a second try before two Bai penalties brought Fiji level at 18-18. A frantic finish went the home side's way when Veroniki Goneva scored the game's final try, converted by Bai.

Summer signing JP Pietersen was part of the South Africa team that was beaten 26-20 by Ireland, who lost CJ Stander to a 23rd-minute red card, in Cape Town. Ireland can clinch the two-match series in Johannesburg on Saturday before the final Test in Port Elizabeth a week later.#
