Leicester Tigers set the ball rolling on their pre-season programme with a match against the Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Friday (7.15pm).
This is the first part of a double header with the Welsh club who make the trip to Welford Road in the return on Friday, August 26 (7.45pm) during the final weekend before the start of league competition.
The priority at this stage is to share some gametime throughout the squad and Tigers expect to take a group of around 30 players for the trip.
“We’ve been working hard in training and the players probably can’t wait to get their boots on and have a go at someone else after five weeks of training against each other,” said coach Richard Blaze.
“The result in your first pre-season game is not as important as getting game-time into the players. We won’t be looking to get 80 minutes into anyone at this stage so we’ll share out the game-time with a plan to give everyone 40-50 minutes and start to build from there.”
The players involved in England’s triumphant tour to Australia in June have just returned from their summer break and will not be included in the travelling squad as they begin their own pre-season programme.
