Hard work never stops says prop Genge

Leicester Tigers prop Ellis Genge has returned from his first international experience determined that the hard work will continue in Leicester Tigers colours.

Genge's feet hardly touched the floor as he earned an England call-up after a handful of appearances for Tigers, making his international debut in the end-of-season match against Wales before going on the triumphant tour to Australia. He returned to club duties last week with the rest of the England contingent and started the opening pre-season fixture away to the Ospreys on Friday.

“In my first session back at Tigers with [strength and conditioning coach] Matt Parr I got absolutely beasted,” said the 21-year-old Genge. “I was feeling faint – but it hit me then that the graft never stops.

“That’s my new ethos – you’ve just got to keep grinding on.”

Although he did not add to his gametime on the tour, Genge says he was proud to share in the experience alongside club colleagues Dan Cole and Ben Youngs.

“I’ll never forget my first England cap, whether it was on the back of six games or 100 games,” he said. “I’m very proud of it but I also know that you’re only as good as your last game and I can’t wait to get back to it.”

Tigers are in action again this Friday when they end a training camp in Italy with a match against Benetton Treviso and return to home territory for a final pre-season outing against the Ospreys at Welford Road on Friday, August 26. Match tickets are available now. This fixture is included in Tigers season tickets.
