One more test in season's build-up

Freddie Burns says the pre-season fixtures are all "stepping stones" to the opening match of the Aviva Premiership season, away to Gloucester Rugby next Friday.

Leicester Tigers host the Ospreys in the final fixture of the pre-season programme tomorrow evening (Friday) after starting with a trip to Wales a fortnight ago and then coming through a training camp in Italy which ended with a five-try win over Treviso last weekend.

“It was good to get that first win of the summer and a lot of players got a few more minutes under their belts,” said fly-half Burns who ended last season prematurely after suffering an ankle injury during the European Champions Cup semi-final against Racing 92.

“It’s always hard in pre-season games because there are lots of changes and it’s a bit frantic, but it’s all part of being ready for the start of the season.

“We’ve got one game to go and we feel like we’re building nicely. We can go into that game with confidence and it’s another stepping stone on the way to the Gloucester game.

“Ospreys are going to present another challenge in a different scenario but we just need to keep taking those steps towards Gloucester and we feel like we’re well on the way.”

Kick-off is at 7.45pm at Welford Road on Friday and match tickets are still available. Book in person at Welford Road, phone 0116 319 8888 or click here to book online. The ticket office will be open right up to kick-off.

This fixture is included in Tigers season tickets.

Please note that the other pre-season fixture against Nottingham Rugby, also scheduled for this Friday, has been cancelled.
