Dom Barrow gave his thumbs up to the new playing surface at Welford Road after Friday's pre-season fixture against the Ospreys.
The new, fully natural Eclipse Turf System pitch has been installed for the new season and was used for the first time as Tigers recorded a 42-38 win in their final game of pre-season.
Developed and installed by Lincolnshire-based County Turf, the pitch features natural turf held together by a sub membrane.
“It was terrific,” said second rower Barrow, who scored one of Tigers' six tries in the win against Ospreys. “It takes a stud, which at this time of year is nice. Normally you are hobbling around at this time of year!
“It’s great to play on a good surface and suits the way we want to play.
I think we went quite well in the forward pack with our maul and scrum. But we have made no secret of the fact we want to play an exciting brand of rugby, we are ambitious and having a pitch we can move on and not getting bogged down is really helpful.”
