Matchday guide: Tigers return to Welford Road

Figure image
Leicester Tigers are back on home turf - and on a new pitch at Welford Road - this Saturday for the first home game of the Aviva Premiership season and for Tigers In The Park in the hours building up to kick-off.

Tigers In The Park is a free community event based at the stadium and at Nelson Mandela Park, with a Rio Carnival theme this year to celebrate a summer of success at the Olympics in Brazil. Events and activities are open from 11am right up to 2.45pm, with kick-off at Welford Road at 3.00pm. Click here for more information on Tigers In The Park.

The opening home game of the season sees Tigers host a Wasps team who reached the Aviva Premiership semi-finals in 2015/16. Both teams launched their new campaign with wins last week and another big contest is expected.

Tigers gave debuts to new signings JP Pietersen, George McGuigan and Luke Hamilton in the victory at Gloucester last Friday which was sealed with a last-minute try from Sam Harrison, while Wasps have welcomed back fly-half Danny Cipriani this season.

Match tickets are still available. Book at the Tigers ticket office at Welford Road or phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2). The office is open 9am-5pm Monday-Saturday. Or click here to book online any time. There is a print-at-home option for all tickets bought online.

If you are picking up any pre-paid match tickets on your way to the game, the Collection Point is based on the plaza outside main reception.

Like every home game in the regular league season and pool stages of the Anglo-Welsh and European Cups, this match is included in Tigers season tickets. All matches in the new season have been loaded on to existing season ticket cards unless you have changed seats or price category, in which case a new card will be supplied. Season tickets are still available to purchase, with a number of benefits and the knowledge that your place is booked for every week of the campaign.

The Tigers Club Stores in the Robin Hood Stand and the Holland & Barrett Stand will be open from 9am, and the ticket office will be open all day for match and season ticket sales.

Turnstiles at Welford Road now open 90 minutes before kick-off. Food kiosks and bars around the stadium will also be open from 1.30pm this Saturday. Final Whistle will be open from 11am for visitors to Tigers In The Park.

The ABC Bar in the south stand now includes a bar serving Everards Tiger Cask Ale.

The Junior Tigers Club, with activities for young supporters, is open throughout the day. There is an opportunity to meet a Tigers player and for a young fan each week to run out with the team as matchday mascot in our special pre-match draw. Click here to learn more about JTC and to gain FREE membership for the young fan in your family.

Tigers have introduced new matchday wristbands for junior supporters on which parents can complete contact details in the case of getting separated in the stadium. These wristbands are available at the Junior Tigers Club and at a number of turnstiles.

Pick up a copy of the new-look 100-page match programme with a welcome to new signings JP Pietersen, George McGuigan, Luke Hamilton and Ellis Genge whose loan move from Bristol became a permanent one in the summer. We’ve also got a guide to the Tigers’ summer, all the news from around the Aviva Premiership, the Junior Tigers Club pages and Tigers Family Fanzone including Tiger Hunt. Pick up your copy around the stadium or at Tigers In The Park, price £3.

Supporters can get right to the heart of the action with a new Fan Radio service available at Welford Road. The service features referee microphone and television match official on one channel and commentary on the other. Units cost £15 for the whole season. Pick up your set in the Club Store and shop kiosks around the stadium at Welford Road. Fan Radio sets also act as an FM radio.

New matchday travel services run by Centrebus and Roberts Coaches are in operation on five routes, with an early timetable this week to allow all supporters to visit Tigers In The Park. Please note that the Roberts service must be booked in advance via the Tigers ticket office. For more information on Tigers matchday services and this week’s timetable, click here.

Resident band Rock Bottom provide the live music in Final Whistle after the game on Saturday, and the ticket office and club store will be open for an hour after the game.
