Salary Cap Framework to 2019-20

Premiership Rugby today confirmed the base level of its Salary Cap Framework for seasons 2018-19 and 2019-20 will remain at £7m.

At its September 6 meeting, the Board decided unanimously to retain this level following the increases announced in October last year to £6.5m for this Season and £7m for 2017-18. All of the key features of the Framework announced last year – notably the investment in Home Grown Players and the recognition of players’ absence on International duty – will be retained.

“We have a very strong and highly competitive league which is set for another fascinating season. The Salary Cap Framework is essential to maintaining its strength and protecting the competitive uncertainty which is its hallmark,” said Premiership Rugby chief executive Mark McCafferty.

“Setting the Salary Cap Framework through to the next Rugby World Cup season allows the clubs to plan ahead with certainty as well as underpinning the continued delivery of financial viability and the clubs’ investment in all parts of the professional game.

"This investment will help ensure the English game thrives at club and country level and that we achieve domestic, European and international success.”
