Leicester Tigers player cooked up a storm this lunchtime as they took on a nutritional challenge at the club training ground.

Under the watchful eye of Ed Hollis, Tigers head of medical services, and Amy Haughey, a former colleague of his at Canberra Raiders, who is now clinical dietician at London Bridge Hospital, eight of the Tigers squad were tasked with creating a healthy lunch for each other.

The task included coming up with a recipe, purchasing the foods and then cooking their meal in the kitchen at Oval Park.

Freddie Burns and Lachlan McCaffrey made spaghetti Bolognese, Oli Bryant and George Worth cooked a risotto while the pairings of Fraser Balmain and Harry Thacker, and Will Owen and Joe Maksymiw made chicken and vegetable burritos.

Hollis said: “It’s all about trying to give some of the boys a bit of education as to what to eat, looking at food labels and making better choices.

“It’s probably aimed more at the development squad boys who live on their own, but it’s open to them all. This was the first time of doing it and they’ve really enjoyed it.”

Maksymiw and Owen and their burritos were named the winners, and Maksymiw said: “It’s nice to win – we always knew we had it in us!

“What was the recipe? We are not allowed to tell you the secret seasoning!”
