Pietersen starts for South Africa at HQ

JP Pietersen will become the latest Leicester Tigers player to receive international honours when he starts for South Africa against England at Twickenham on Saturday.

Pietersen will win his 70th cap for the Springboks in the opening match of the autumn international series.

The winger, who has won seven and drawn of the eight Tests in which he has played against England, will come up against Tigers teammates Dan Cole and Ben Youngs, who have been named in the Red Rose starting XV.

South Africa include only five players who started in the 31-31 draw against the Barbarians last week at Wembley in Beast Mtawarira, Pieter-Steph du Toit , Rudy Paige, Pat Lambie and Francois Venter, who will make his Test debut on Saturday.

Springbok coach Allister Coetzee said: “The challenge this week will definitely start up front as the English pack paved the way for their series win over the Wallabies in Australia. It will be a physical challenge and the set-piece battle could prove to be decisive.

“England have a lot of belief at the moment – they have won their last nine matches since the appointment of Eddie Jones as coach.

“They are always formidable at Twickenham and matches involving our two countries have always delivered close fought encounters. They are an extremely well-coached side with no apparent weaknesses and their away series win in Australia proved why they are currently second in the world rankings.

“They are definite favourites, but we are looking forward to another huge battle against them.”

The game will be shown as live, in full, on the big screens in Final Whistle in the Holland & Barrett Stand at Welford Road after full-time of Tigers' Anglo-Welsh Cup fixture with Newport Gwent Dragons on Saturday.

Tickets for Tigers v Newport are available now. Call the ticket office on 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or visit www.leicestertigers.com/matchtickets.
