Matchday guide: Welford Road this Saturday

Figure image
Welford Road hosts the first home game of this season's Anglo-Welsh Cup on Saturday afternoon when Leicester Tigers welcome Newport Gwent Dragons. Here is our guide to getting the most out of your day.

Team news from both camps is announced at noon on Friday. Look out for updates on the Tigers club website and social media channels.

The Tigers club store is open from 9am and there are activities on the plaza outside the main Holland & Barrett Stand in the build-up to kick-off.

There are activities for young supporters in the Junior Tigers Club in the Holland & Barrett Stand from two hours before kick-off at each home game, including the opportunity for young supporters to meet a Tigers player and for one young fan to run out with the team as matchday mascot in our pre-match draw.

Tigers have introduced matchday wristbands for junior supporters on which parents can complete contact details in the case of getting separated in the stadium. Wristbands are available at the Junior Tigers Club and at a number of turnstiles.

Turnstiles open 90 minutes before kick-off. Food kiosks and bars around the stadium are also open from 1.30pm, including the ABC Bar in the south stand which now serves Everards Tiger Cask Ale.

This week’s match programme includes a feature explain how young players are gaining experience on loan at clubs outside the Aviva Premiership, plus a guide to the Anglo-Welsh Cup and to the visitors from the Dragons. Pick up your copy around the stadium, price £3.

Our Fan Radio service is available this weekend with referee microphone on one channel and commentary on the other. Units cost £15 for the whole season. Buy your set in the Club Store or shop kiosks around the stadium.

Official matchday bus services run by Centrebus are in operation on four routes. Please note that the coach service from Nuneaton is no longer in operation, though there is space on the Bosworth service for supporters travelling from that direction. There is also a separate supporters’ bus available from Rugby and Lutterworth. For more information on Tigers travel, and this week’s timetable, please click here.

As Saturday’s match is the closest home fixture to Remembrance Sunday, there will be a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off in respect of those who have lost their lives in conflict and the playing of The Last Post. Supporters are requested to take their places in the stadium in good time ahead of kick-off.

The Prima Tiger Cup provides added match action on Saturday, with under-10s teams following in the footsteps of legends on the Welford Road pitch. As these games will be played after the final whistle in the Tigers versus Dragons fixture, all supporters are asked to please stay off the pitch.

At half-time we’ll reveal the name of a season ticket winner in the TigersLotto and there’s a chance to cheer the teams taking part in The Ultimate Big Boot.

Resident band Rock Bottom provide live music in Final Whistle after the game and the ticket office and club store will be open for an hour after the match.

Also after the Tigers match, we’ll have ‘as live’ big screen coverage of the England versus South Africa match from Twickenham as Ben Youngs and Dan Cole go head to head with clubmate JP Pietersen in national colours.

Like every home game in the regular season, Saturday’s match is included in Tigers season tickets.

Match tickets are still available for any other supporters and the Welford Road ticket office is open all day Friday (9am-5pm) as well as from 9am on matchday. Book in person at Welford Road or phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2). Or click here to book online any time. There is a print-at-home option for all tickets bought online.

If you are picking up any pre-paid match tickets on your way to the game, the Collection Point is based on the plaza outside main reception.

If you are attending the game, don't forget to click 'Going' on the Tigers Facebook page.

Tickets for forthcoming home games against Harlequins, Northampton Saints, Munster and the match against Saracens on New Year’s Day are also on general sale now and can be booked at the ticket office this weekend.
