Cole calls for fast start from England

Dan Cole has called for England to make a fast start to today's Test against South Africa at Twickenham.

England kick-off their autumn international series at HQ this afternoon (2.30pm), with Cole and Ben Youngs named in the Red Rose starting XV and JP Pietersen starting for South Africa.

England are aiming for a first victory over South Africa since 2006 and Cole says the opening quarter of the game will be crucial to fulfilling that goal.

“It’s important to get off to a fast start,” he said. “You look at the games from last weekend and the teams that took momentum into the first 20 minutes, Ireland and Australia.

“Those teams that came out firing got into an early game-plan and rhythm and were able to capitalise on that.

“That’s important for us because South Africa are a very difficult team to play catch-up rugby against. They know how to kick, how to defend, how to shut you down.

“It’s important you stay in the game or ideally get ahead and make them chase the game.”

The game will be shown as live, in full, on the big screens in Final Whistle in the Holland & Barrett Stand at Welford Road after full-time of Tigers' Anglo-Welsh Cup fixture with Newport Gwent Dragons today.
