A team from Maplewell School representing Leicester Tigers in the BT Wheelchair Rugby Youth Tournament beat Northampton Saints 12-10 in the Shield Final.

Leicester Tigers Foundation has recently added a new Rugby Development Officer, Josh Black, who works specifically with the Tigers Wheelchair team and works with groups and schools to bring rugby to more children with special needs or disability.

Aims of the programme include raising awareness, profile and support for disability sport across every spectrum of life and champion people living with disabilities in the community through delivering rugby in SEND (Special Educational Need and Disability) schools in Leicestershire.

Maplewell has recently had delivery from Josh at the school and sent a class to represent Tigers at the youth tournament.

Jack Follows, PE teacher at Maplewell, said: “We won the youth shield which was massive for us. We didn’t win the overall competition but the boys have been brilliant. It was also great to represent a club like Leicester Tigers at the event.”

An event is being organised to celebrate the progress of the schools the Foundation has been working in and will take place at New College on December 16.

The schools there will have the chance to work with different community coaches and have the chance to either participate or observe the sport of wheelchair rugby.
