Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team finished fifth overall in the first Super Series weekend of the BT GBWR (Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby) Division 1 at Leicester Arena.

As part of the Leicester Tigers Foundation and teaming up with the Matt Hampson Foundation, the Tigers Wheelchair Rugby Club plays in the UK league and joins forces with the Marauders club to play as Leicester Tigers in European competition.

Fielding a relatively young and inexperienced team, the Tigers lost out in the first game by just two goals against Solent Sharks despite staging an excellent fightback, with the final score 53-51.

Learning lessons from their previous match and growing in confidence, the team then managed to pull away from the North East Bulls after being tied up after the third quarter to win 47-43.

In the final match of the day, the team put up a brave performance against a West Coast Crash team littered with international level players but lost 53-36.

Day 2 proved to be a more profitable venture for the team, putting in more rounded performances and demonstrating their skills in attack to beat London Crusaders 47-43 and set up a big derby game against Marauders Tigers, who are also supported by the Leicester Tigers Foundation.

In a match which determined which team would finish fifth and sixth, the Tigers came through to a 52-41 victory.

The next Super Series is on February 18/19 at Walsall Sports Arena, as part of the University of Wolverhampton.
