Tuilagi sidelined by knee ligament injury

Manu Tuilagi has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury.

Leicester Tigers centre Tuilagi suffered the injury in a tackle during the early stages of the home game against Saracens on New Year’s Day.

“Unfortunately Manu has an ACL injury from the game on Sunday and will be out for the rest of the season,” head coach Aaron Mauger confirmed.

“He will have surgery and it is looking like a six-month recovery period, which is devastating for the bloke because he has worked so hard to get back from his groin injury.

“I’m really proud of the growth we’ve seen in him, he has been starting to get the explosive power and speed back, and he’s also worked really hard on his understanding of the game so it is very disappointing to have him injured.

“He has a good support group around him and we’ll look forward to getting him back on the field.”
