Leicester Tigers Foundation and the Tigers Wheelchair coaches have delivered a unique 'Murderball' experience for the Round Table Societies from Loughborough and Melton Mowbray.
The Foundation supports the Leicester Tigers and Marauders Wheelchair Rugby teams, with both teams competing nationally in Division One of the BT Super Series.
Tigers Wheelchair Rugby chairman James Price led the coaching evening at Wreake Valley Academy in Syston as members from the Round Table learned about the game and gained experience of playing full-contact games in a fun and inclusive environment.
Round Table got stuck into the sessions and games as well as helping to raise funding for the Foundation to continue its work with in disability sport.
Josh Black, Tigers Foundation development officer, said: “The Murderball events are amazing, they provide a real opportunity to give groups a chance to have fun in a unique team-building environment. It’s an exciting full-on contact sport that can be enjoyed by anyone and it helps raise awareness of the challenges and realities of those living with disability.”
Murderball was originally developed for people with spinal injuries but has grown into a popular international sport.
In the 1996 Paralympics, Murderball adopted the name of Wheelchair Rugby. It is a full contact sport where specially-designed chairs do collide and the main aim is to score as many goals as possible.
