Head coach Aaron Mauger says the Leicester Tigers are hurting after defeat by Glasgow Warriors and now need to find a response to return to winning ways.
Warriors reached the European Champions Cup for the first time with a record 43-0 win at Welford Road on Saturday, while Tigers were already out of the qualification picture after defeats in each of their away games in Pool 1.
“We just weren’t good enough,” said Mauger. “Warriors were very good, you can’t take anything away from them. We couldn’t counter it.
“It is not for a lack of effort or desire, we were just not good enough and we didn’t execute the things we needed to. They deserved it, they played well and we wish them well.
“It is really painful, we apologise to our people, to the Tigers Family. The guys are really hurting, they care a lot. People probably question their attitude but I don’t think we can, they all tried their best but clearly we were not good enough.
“We have to regroup. Europe is done and dusted, now we focus on the Anglo-Welsh Cup next week and we still have plenty to play for in the Aviva Premiership. It starts with me at the moment and the coaching group and we have to make sure we get more out of our performances as a playing group and get back on course.”
Tigers are back on home turf next Saturday with an Anglo-Welsh Cup match against Northampton Saints. Kick-off is at 3pm and tickets are available now.
