Barrow honoured to captain Tigers

Dom Barrow described the chance to lead the Leicester Tigers  as a huge honour.

Barrow captained Tigers for the first time in Anglo-Welsh Cup pool fixture away to Saracens on Sunday.

It was his second start after returning from a 12-week stand-down following concussion and the 23-year-old says he is delighted to be back in action.

“I feel good,” he said, after the game at Allianz Park. “I had 12 weeks out with the stand down so on a personal note I’m pleased to be back playing. To start and lead the team is a huge honour for me.

“I felt like I was trying to lead the pack and get us into the right areas of the field and, with calling the lineout as well, it lends itself to leading in a way

“You’re always discussing lineout plays with the team leaders and what we’re playing in which areas of the field, so in that regard nothing changed.”

Tigers now have a return game against Saracens at Allianz Park in the Anglo-Welsh Cup to look forward to, but before than the focus switches to the Aviva Premiership and back-to-back home games against Gloucester Rugby and Bristol Rugby.

Tigers and Gloucester are separated by three points in the table as the race for a place in the top four heats up.

Barrow said: “We’ve got Gloucester and Bristol next up. We’re going to be scrapping hard and they’re going to be games that we might need to win ugly.

“We’ve had a month out of the Aviva Premiership now, but we’ve got a run of games back in that competition where we can really focus on getting those wins.”

Match tickets for the games against Gloucester (Saturday, February 11) and Bristol (Saturday, February 18) are available now from the Tigers ticket office. Visit in person, call 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or click here to book your place.
