Leicester Tigers were delighted to share matchday at Welford Road with the under-18 team from Cartagena rugby club in Spain during their mid-season tour to England.

Cartagena played tour fixtures against local clubs as well as joining Tigers for the Aviva Premiership game against Bristol where they took part in a Matchday Coaching Clinic and The Ultimate Big Boot entertainment at half-time.

Cartagena club official Peter Clarke said: “This team is top of their league in our regional tournament in Murcia. We’ve come over to England with games arranged against Oadby Wyggestonian and Vipers as well as spending the day with Tigers.

“I’ve been a Tigers supporter all my life but I’ve been in Spain for the last 16 years.

“The Coaching Clinic was really good and we’ve been talking about trying to set up something with our coaches as well.”

The Cartagena squad also took on The Ultimate Big Boot at half-time during the Tigers’ bonus-point league win over Bristol.

Sponsored by De Montfort University, The Ultimate Big Boot challenges teams to catch rugby balls fired high into the Welford Road sky and stake a claim to a jackpot prize which started the season at £2,000 for a cleansweep of 10 catches, while also providing an unforgettable opportunity to experience matchday in front of a big crowd.

Cartagena made four catches from their 10 attempts, encouraged by a Welford Road crowd of almost 22,000.

“It has been a great experience for all of the guys,” said Clarke. “We have nothing like this at home, with possibly 100 people at our home games, so to come to Tigers with more than 20,000 people is incredible.”

Places on Matchday Coaching Clinics and The Ultimate Big Boot are available to book via the Group Sales team at Tigers. Phone 0116 319 8888 for more details.
