The Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team has named Marcos Ayerza as an official ambassador.

Long-serving prop Ayerza, a four-time Premiership champion and veteran of 66 Test matches with Argentina, met the coaches, players and volunteers for the wheelchair team and tried one of the chairs to get an insight into the sport.

Rugby development officer Joshua Black has been working to raise the profile of the teram and the sport of wheelchair rugby in Leicestershire and said: “It’s fantastic to have a player like Marcos to be our representative.

“It was brilliant to see the team interact with him and having him on board will give the team a real boost for our remaining fixtures, including the national championships in Leicester in May.”

Tigers Wheelchair had further cause for celebration with the news that players Jamie Stead and Nick Cummins have been selected for Team GB after impressing in a recent trial and will join a squad of 12 for an event in Germany later this year. Gavin Walker, who plays for the Marauders Tigers Wheelchair Team, is also included.

The Tigers team take part in their final Super Series of the season next weekend at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke-on-Trent.
