Ben Youngs says he was delighted to contribute to a winning cause on his return to Leicester Tigers after England's title-winning Six Nations campaign.
Youngs scored a crucial try in Tigers’ 36-31 victory over Northampton Saints at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday and played a key role in the scores by Adam Thompstone and Lachlan McCaffrey.
“I came back during the week and was really impressed with where the group was at,” he said. “It’s exciting and we have really put ourselves in the mix now to try to push for the top four.
“It’s a test, coming back to your club after being away. You have to get yourself in the right headspace and you have to deliver for the boys. You have been away for eight weeks, you come back, they have been working really hard, and you have to deliver for your club.
“I was pleased to be able to contribute and to help the boys on our road to getting a win at Franklin’s Gardens.”
Youngs said he was proud of England’s achievement of winning back-to-back RBS 6 Nations titles, despite missing out on the Grand Slam with defeat in Ireland in the final round.
“It highlights how hard it is to win a Grand Slam, because it is very difficult,” said the Tigers scrum-half. "We had the targets on our heads this year. Everyone wanted to stop us to a degree. To go back-to-back, we are really proud of that.”
