Welford's a big hit on Capital Drivetime

Leicester Tigers mascot Welford made a big impression on Tom & Claire's Drivetime show this week as Capital brought their show to the club's home stadium.

Club mascot Welford joined the team tackling presenter Tom Watts live on air as the radio show celebrated his co-presenter Claire Chambers’ #TripleMarathonChallenge, where she is attempting to run three marathons in three days in three cities around the East Midlands (Derby, Leicester and Nottingham) to raise money for charity.

After successfully completing the Leicester leg of her challenge, Claire joined the rest of the team to broadcast the show live from the Clubhouse Suite at Welford Road situated in the Robin Hood Stand.

Tigers staff also joined the team to present Claire with her own Tigers shirt to say well done for completing her run.

The initiative aims to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise charity which helps support specially selected projects across the UK. Across the three days, Claire is going to run nearly 80 miles.

Chatting to Claire after her run, she said: “We’re so happy that Leicester Tigers were able to get involved and it’s great to have their support. Three marathons in three days in three cities is a huge challenge, but it’s worth it to see the difference the money raised can make.

“We’ve had such a fun afternoon here at Welford Road. The pitch looks great and it was great to get Welford involved, although I’m not sure Tom enjoyed getting tackled as much as we did watching it.”
