'A' League stages showdown on final night

Figure image
Leicester Tigers will have to wait until the final whistles have blown around the country on Monday evening to learn their fate in the Aviva 'A' League.

After taking two points in a 41-40 defeat against Worcester Cavaliers at Lichfield RFC on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers Development XV tops the competition’s Northern Conference on 15 points after completing their five fixtures. The remaining contenders for a semi-finals place are in action on Monday evening in the final day of the pol stages.

Northampton Saints will qualify for the semi-finals and claim top spot in the section with a home victory over Sale Jets on Monday, while Newcastle Falcons (12 points) or Wasps (10 points) could also leapfrog Tigers into the top two, depending on the result of their meeting at Kingston Park. A win for Falcons would take them past Tigers, while Wasps would need a bonus-point win and to increase their points difference to move into the top two.

In the Southern Conference, four teams are chasing two qualifying places, with only four points separating Exeter, Gloucester, Saracens and Bristol.

The semi-finals give home advantage to the Northern Conference winners against the Southern second place, with the Southern Conference leaders hosting second place from the North.
