Matt Hampson Foundation hits major landmark

Figure image
The Matt Hampson Foundation has now handed out more than £1million in grants and financial support to young people seriously injured through sport and physical recreation in just five years.

Founded in 2011 by former England Under-21 rugby player Matt Hampson, the Foundation was established to inspire and support young people who have suffered serious injury through sport. Five years on, the Foundation has given more than £1million in financial support to over 200 individuals and organisations.

The Foundation’s work has seen individuals go on to achieve tremendous things, from holding their own mouth art exhibitions, starting families, studying for PHDs and winning Paralympic gold medals!

After reaching the £1million mark, Foundation chief executive Tommy Cawston said: “We’re incredibly proud of the work that Matt and the Foundation have achieved in such a short amount of time.

“Passing the £1million mark is huge news for us and goes to show how important the work we are doing is.”

The Foundation, an official charity of the Leicester Tigers, is only able to reach this landmark and continue its work thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses who have offered support.

The Foundation’s big goal is to build the Get Busy Living Centre for seriously injured individuals to spend time with their families and build relationships with others in similar situations as well as offering services including physical rehabilitation. It will also house specialist rehabilitation and gym equipment for beneficiaries.

The Get Busy Living Centre is the brainchild of the Foundation and will see the site of a former aircraft hangar on the Burrough Court estate near Melton Mowbray transformed into a start-of-the-art facility for those who have suffered life-changing injury through sport, like Matt himself in 2005.
