More than 1,000 Leicester Tigers supporters joined the players for an open training session at Welford Road on Good Friday.

The Bank Holiday weekend event gave fans a chance to get up close with the Tigers team as they watched the players being put through their paces by head coach Matt O’Connor and the backroom staff ahead of Saturday’s home game against Newcastle Falcons.

Before the morning session, coaches Geordan Murphy and Richard Blaze took part in a Q&A session in the Final Whistle Bar before fans were invited to watch training from seats in the Holland & Barrett Stand.

Afterwards, fans had the chance to meet the players as they gathered autographs and photos.

Tom Croft and Ben Youngs brought some familiar faces to help serve coffee and doughnuts at their 96 Coffee by Numbers stall in the Final Whistle, with Matt Toomua and Jono Kitto getting through a full shift.

Throughout the day there was an Easter egg hunt for young supporters, alongside a tour of the stadium and fans also had a chance to have their photo taken with the Anglo-Welsh Cup and club mascot Welford.

Phil Warrington, PR officer at Tigers, said: “It was fantastic to see so many fans turn out for today’s session. They created a great atmosphere and it was great to see the smiles on their faces when the players came over to sign some autographs.

“Days like today are important in giving something back to our supporters and we wanted to create a memorable day that we hope will stay with the fans for years to come. From the Q&A and the Easter egg hunt to the training itself, we hope everyone went home with some special memories.”
