Family of pre-war Leicester Tigers player Frank Herbert received a Heritage Fund coin in his memory in front of the Welford Road crowd on Saturday.

The Leicester Tigers Foundation was honoured to receive a donation from Frank’s daughter Ruth Page towards the Heritage Fund and invited her to share matchday with the club as Tigers faced Newcastle Falcons in a vital Aviva Premiership fixture.

Although Ruth was unable to attend the match, Frank’s grand-daughter Caroline King, her husband Oliver and Frank’s great-grandchildren Harry, George and Matilda were among a 23,000-strong crowd and were presented with their Tigers Memorial Coin just ahead of kick-off.

They received coin number 130, representing the number of points Herbert scored for Tigers in the form of 18 tries in 64 appearances in the years immediately before World War Two.
