Genge looks to make an impact with England

Ellis Genge is hoping to make the most of his opportunity after being named in the England squad for the two-Test tour to Argentina this summer.

“I was part of the England camps a few times but I haven’t played for England this season,” said the Leicester Tigers loosehead prop.

“Joe Marler and Mako Vunipola have played all year, they’ve been in great form and they’ve now been picked for the Lions this summer. Now I’ve got a good opportunity to go out there and really have a crack at it.”

Genge, 22, is aware that the squad have a lot to live up to after England’s successes under Eddie Jones in 2016/17, including the long unbeaten run up to the final weekend of the Six Nations Championship.

“The boys have been in really good form,” he said. “England have had a strong year and have just won the Six Nations so as a squad we have now got a job to do to go there and carry on that good form and try to win the series against Argentina.”

Genge won his first cap against Wales at the end of last season and joined the subsequent tour party to Australia, but now has an opportunity to test himself again at international level.
