Restructure in the Tigers academy

As part of an ongoing review at all levels and especially in light of the challenges presented by the Coronavirus pandemic, Leicester Tigers can confirm that Ged Glynn and David Mėlė will be leaving the club.

The club has been reviewing its business and, with continued uncertainty around a return to play and the financial implications of several months without matchday income, tough financial decisions have to be made around the streamlining of structures and operations in some departments.

In his role as head of player pathway and talent identification, Ged has had an overview of the club’s academy system which has yielded three successive titles in the National Under-18 League as well as the development of relations with the club’s Good to Great schools programme and the pathway for young players through the system.

Former scrum-half David returned to the club at the start of the 2019/20 season as a coach with emphasis on half-back skills and has worked closely with the academy squad and its head coach Matt Smith.

As Geordan Murphy assumes the role of Director of Rugby from July 1, he will take responsibility for the academy system and its pathways with the continued focus of nurturing graduates into senior rugby at the club. He will work closely with the academy set-up led by manager Dave Wilks and Smith who moved into the new role of head coach in the summer of 2019.

The club thanks Ged and David for their hard work on behalf of the Tigers and wishes them well for the future.
