The 2013/14 season was a personal triumph for Vereniki Goneva, finishing the season as Aviva Premiership top try-scorer, Tigers Players’ Player of the Year, Supporters’ Player of the Year and RPA Player of the Year.

He was also shortlisted for Aviva Premiership Player of the Year and named in the BT Sport Team of the Year as he also a new contract to remain at Welford Road.

He started the season as he had ended the previous one, being named Goldsmiths Player of the Month for September 2013 after three tries in the opening four games and earning the Try of the Week award for his bonus-point try in the last minute of the opening-day win over Worcester Warriors.

Fijian wing Goneva ended his first season as a Leicester Tigers player with a try in each of his last three games of 2012/13, including the Aviva Premiership semi-final win over defending champions Harlequins and Final victory against Northampton Saints. He topped the try-scoring charts at the club for a second time in 2014/15 after an early-season hat-trick against Newcastle, scored in front of his parents at Welford Road on their first-ever visit.

Moving to England after three seasons with Tarbes in France, Goneva became the 10th player in Tigers history to score a try on his Premiership debut in the win at London Welsh in September 2012.

It was former Tigers player Waisale Serevi who included Goneva in the Fiji squad for the 2007/08 IRB Sevens, with his Test debut following in 2008.

He made his World Cup debut against Namibia in 2011, scoring four tries and claiming the man-of-the-match award, and played for Fiji against an England team featuring seven Tigers team-mates at Twickenham in November 2012.
