Leicester Tigers will host thousands of city primary schoolchildren as part of the Author Week project aimed at encouraging and improving reading among youngsters.
Author Week (March 22-26) forms a part of a new Leicester City Council-supported initiative called Whatever It Takes, which promotes reading among primary schools.
More than 65 schools have signed up to take part in Author Week, and 10 children’s authors will be conducting practical workshops at Welford Road, home of the Tigers.
Leicester Tigers managing director David Clayton said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome so many young people to Welford Road as part of Author Week.
“The Author Week programme allows a large number of local children to join an interactive event at the home of the Leicester Tigers.
“The message at the heart of ‘Whatever It Takes’ is to help increase standards of achievement among children and to have plenty of fun in the process, which is also the way we approach so many of our own community activities. We hope they have a great time at Welford Road.”
Authors taking part in the week’s activities are Lizzie Finlay, Sarah McIntrye, Chris Wormwell, Hannah Shaw, Guy Bass, Sally Nicholls, John Dougherty, Linda Newberry, MG Harris and Bali Rai.
