Vesty was with the physios when a Ben Youngs break set Johne Murphy clear to score Tigers' fourth try of Sunday's Guinness Premiership game against London Wasps.
The try, Murphy’s 10th of the season, gave the visitors a try-scoring bonus point and brought them to within two points of picking up a losing bonus point, which Vesty claimed by knocking over the resulting conversion.
Vesty said: “I was up the other end telling the physio I'd had a whack on the head. I didn’t even know we could be within seven points.
“I got up and I was on the halfway line and said to Mauge (Arron Mauger) ‘just knock it over’. He said it was for a bonus point so I had to get my head on."
Vesty gathered his composure to successfully make the kick, despite two false starts as Wasps defenders charged him down prematurely.
“It was a slightly awkward kick but I should kick that," he said. "If I had missed that I would have been very disappointed.”
Vesty made his first Guinness Premiership start of the season at fly-half and capped it with a first-half try. He admitted it was a “strange” feeling to lose the game at Adams Park 36-29 but claim two bonus points with the last move of the game.
“It’s a strange one,” he said. “We came here to win and we could have won. We probably played more rugby than them but we gave them too many points and we defended sloppily at times to give them those points.
"With five minutes to go we would have taken two points out of the game.
“Ben Youngs is the man you want to see running with the ball. He is very good at that. It was a great finish by Johne, who showed a great turn of speed to score.”
Tigers are again in Guinness Premiership action on Saturday when Worcester Warriors are the visitors to Welford Road. Kick-off is at 3pm. Tickets are available from the Welford Road ticket office on 08701 28 34 30, book online or call in at the ticket office now.
