The Leicester Tigers scrum-half scored the opening try in England’s 40-21 semi-final victory over South Africa on Wednesday, after earlier seeing his clearance kick charged down for their rivals’ first score of the game.
"We had a great first 10 minutes and were 9-0 up then went in our shells a bit, and did a few erratic things, myself included,” Youngs said.
“I just took an age to kick the ball, then there was someone in front when I tried to tackle him in the corner.
"But we managed to address everything at half-time and came out to put in a good performance in the second half.”
The Youngs try was very similar to the dart at Bath in the EDF Energy Cup last October which brought his first senior score in Tigers colours.
"It was a lineout and I saw one of the South Africans just fly a bit,” he said.
“I thought there might be a hole and managed to go through. I got around their wing, which was nice, and managed to stretch out to score.
“To score just after half-time gave the lads some strong belief that we were in there to win it.”
Now Youngs and the rest of the England squad can switch their focus to a final against New Zealand who beat Australia 31-17 in the other semi-final.
"They bring strong forwards and exciting backs every year,” said Youngs. “Last year we learned a big lesson when they beat us in the final.
"There are a lot of boys here who don't want that feeling again, and we can definitely put things that went wrong then right this time, and give them a real good test.
"I got on for 20 minutes or so from the bench last year and we lost quite heavily. If we match them up front and keep hold of the ball, there's no reason why we can't win it."
