Local lad Harry Read made the switch from football to rugby aged 12 and made such good progress that he entered the Tigers academy in 2019.
“My mates at school played rugby and told me I should try it and I was converted,” he says.
“I used to play football and I play a lot of cricket in my spare time. I changed from football to rugby at the age of 12 and I’ve enjoyed it ever since.”
Harry joined the Tigers DPP group at Stoneygate from Lutterworth RFC and says he enjoyed not only the coaching but also the camaraderie.
Getting to know you
Who was your favourite rugby player growing up?
Beauden Barrett, he’s just slick and inspirational what he does.
If you could meet a famous person, dead or alive, who would it be?
Muhammad Ali, he’s just so inspirational.
What do you like most about rugby compared with other sports?
I like the physical side of it, you can be big and strong but you’ve still got to be fast, and you’ve got to have the skills, so it’s open to nearly everybody.
