Growing up in Kibworth and playing for Market Harborough RFC, Jack Vernum says “constantly wanting to be on the ball” means he has always been a fly-half.
“Even when I started in tag rugby at under-6s, I’ve always wanted the ball in my hands,” he says.
“I played football for my school, but it’s the team effort in rugby – like one big family – that means it’s my sport.”
Getting to know you
If you could meet a famous person, dead or alive, who would it be?
I’d love to meet Jonny Wilkinson, just because he’s an idol of mine in my position, and obviously he was a cracking player as well.
Who’s the most famous person you’ve taken a selfie with?
It would have to be one of the Tigers boys, so probably George Ford. He’s probably the Tigers player I admire the most.
What is your favourite track to train to in the gym?
It’ll have to be something upbeat, like drum and bass – anything to get me going.
