Scunthorpe-born Josh Lugsden hopes to draw on his background in athletics as he enters a second year in the Tigers academy.

Josh first played at fly-half and centre before making his first appearance as a member of the back three at Wellington Festival last year.

He played on the Welford Road pitch for Scunthorpe RFC in the Prima Cup as an under-10s team member and Josh’s also experienced a Tigers matchday in the crowd after a Tigers Rugby Camp at Market Rasen.

“The atmosphere at Welford Road is amazing,” he says. “It’s just so loud and a great place to be.

“Right now, my favourite player is definitely Jonny May. He plays in my position and, coming from an athletics background, we’ve got a similar style. He’s the type of player I’d like to be.”
