Max Fairlie weas introduced to rugby with Melton Mowbray RFC at under-9s level and with Kings School in Grantham.
Playing on the wing before moving to full-back or fly-half, he was selected for the Tigers’ Developing Player Programme at Newark and then Nottingham before joining the academy ranks for 2020/21. He had previously reached academy status as a footballer up to the age of under-13s.
Max says his dad is a big rugby fan – “Scotland in particular” – and identifies Greg Mannion in the academy as an influential coach. “He always tells me my work-ons,” he says.
