Rugby is very much in the blood for Ronnie du Randt, the South African-born back who joined the Leicester Tigers academy from Denstone College in the summer of 2017.
“My brother William played for Western Province from the youngest age-groups and for South Africa Under-18s, and my dad played provincial rugby,” says Ronnie. “So we were all into rugby from a very early age.”
Born in Pretoria and speaking English as a second language, Ronnie moved to England with his family at junior school age before taking big strides in his rugby at Denstone where Jamie Taylor, now junior academy manager with Tigers, played a big part in his development.
“Jamie was first-team coach,” he says. “He’s really passionate about rugby and was one of the main reasons I went to Denstone. He definitely improved the rugby there and I was disappointed he left to join Tigers just before I got to first-team level there!”
