Sam joined Leicester Tigers DPP squad in 2015 after impressing with his local team Market Harborough.
The openside flanker puts much of his development down to DPP coach Troy Thacker who installed the importance of mental preparation.
“I used to get really nervous before games and Troy helped me to overcome this and turn it into a positive”, he says.
“Taking part in the Wellington festival was a great experience and each day, I’m working even harder."
Sam cites World Cup winner and Tigers legend Neil Back as his rugby inspiration, adding: “We play the same position and he wasn’t the tallest, like me, but he made up for it in other ways.”
