Premiership Rugby’s all-time record tryscorer, former England international Tom Varndell returned to Leicester Tigers at Christmas 2018, nine years after the end of his first spell at the club.
One of Premiership rugby’s fastest wings, Varndell burst on to the scene in 2004, making his debut for Leicester against Gloucester and running in a hat-trick of tries at Worcester in his second appearance.
He became Tigers top tryscorer for three successive seasons – including 16 in 22 starts in the double-winning year 2006/07 – and topped the Premiership list twice, while also gaining England Saxons honours before gaining four senior caps.
A Commonwealth Games silver medallist in Melbourne in 2006, he was also named Guinness Premiership Young Player of the Year and Land Rover Discovery of the Year that year.
After leaving Tigers, Tom enjoyed another prolific spell with Wasps, taking his Premiership try total to 92 to overhaul previous record holder Mark Cueto, then had short stays with Bristol, Scarlets and French club Soyaux Angouleme before returning to Tigers as injury cover in the final week of 2018 with Adam Thompstone, Telusa Veainu, Mathew Tait and Matt Smith all sidelined.
