Warriors trip kicks off crucial spell

Richard Cockerill has pinpointed the Christmas period as vital to the Leicester Tigers season, starting at Worcester Warriors next Tuesday.

“Worcester away is as important as the Clermont game now,” said Tigers director of rugby Cockerill.

“We’ve got three big games over the Christmas period and if we can win them we put ourselves in a very good position in the Aviva Premiership table going into the second half of the season.

“It’s very tight in the league and if we lose one or two in this spell then we are in that mid-table group with everybody else and it becomes tough.

“There is a short turnaround after Worcester for the Sale game at home on New Year’s Day, then six days for Wasps, then we go to Ulster. That’s a big spell in the season.”

Worcester Warriors, who returned to the Aviva Premiership this season after one season in the Championship, have lost just once in their last five matches in all competitions, while Tigers have lost once in their last nine fixtures ahead of the sell-out Bank Holiday clash at Sixways.

Tigers return to home soil for back-to-back fixtures at Welford Road against Sale Sharks on New Year’s Day (3.30pm) and London Wasps on Saturday, January 7 (5pm). Tickets are available now.
