Support Scotty's rugby world record attempt

Leicester Tigers fans are being encouraged to support a world record attempt at Welford Road in aid of Scotty's Little Soldiers.

A Scotty's Invitational team will take on a Tri-services squad in a 15-a-side full contact rugby match over 25 hours at the home of Leicester Tigers.

The game on May 31 aims to raise awareness and funds for Scotty's Little Soldiers, a charity dedicated to supporting the children of men and women killed in action while serving with the British Armed Forces.

Tickets are on sale now priced £5 adults, £2 children and free for under 2s and are available online at www.scottysworldrecordfundraiser.co.uk or by calling 01553 763000.

The public are encouraged to show their support during the record bid by coming down to Welford Road and cheering the teams on and organisers are planning family activities at the event too. As well as the rugby, there will be plenty of children’s entertainment, including bouncy castles, face painting, magicians, disco and much more. Gates open at 9am.

The Red Devils Parachute Team are due to drop into the stadium with the match ball before kick-off and there will be songs from the RAF Marham Bluebirds Military Wives Choir.

Inspired by the experience of army widow Nichola Scott, the charity honours her husband Corporal Lee 'Scotty' Scott's memory – as a soldier and father – and provides an opportunity for the public to show their appreciation of those who make the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.

The charity provides treats, trips and activities for affected families with the aim of offering a respite from the daily ups and downs of coping without a loved one.

Tigers legend Ben Kay is a patron of Scotty's Little Soldiers, while Louis Deacon has adopted the cause as one of his benefit year charities.

Tigers and England forward Deacon said: “When I first heard of Scotty's Little Soldiers, I instantly wanted to support them during my benefit year. It is a charity that I will continue to support and raise awareness for.”
